Set in the depression of the 1930s, this story follows Kezzie as she overcomes enormous hardships when she and her sister have to deal with being orphaned. Kezzie, with the kindness and help of a few special people, is able to find her way through until, after an accident, her sister is shipped off to Canada as free child labour. Kezzie eventually rescues her sister and the story ends leaving you waiting for the sequel. The physicality of the hardships is well described and this is both exciting and moving with a very strong central character.
