This is 17-year-old Pratchett's first published novel, co-written with his 43-year-old self for the hardback version. After reading it you'll never look at a carpet again without seeing the host of grain-sized people that Pratchett vividly describes as its inhabitants, living in a world that is in danger of destruction from the Mouls, who crave total power. Fortunately there are heroes, albeit reluctant ones, willing to restore the balance by fighting a battle to end all battles. The pace is fast, the humour wry and the wisdom profound. I already have a waiting list for my review copy.
