Send for a Superhero!

This picture book is full of metafictive, dialogic and postmodern devices – and a melee of intertextual references. That aside, it’s wonderful introduction to the graphic novel/comic which will have children laughing at the ‘super-flying-through-the-air-very-fast man’ and the ‘incredibly-big-strong-green man’ who loses his knickers as the evil powers Filth and Vacuum try to destroy the world. The child reader slips between Elmer and Emily ‘s bedtime world and the world of the comic in this rather fun and silly book well illustrated by Katharine McEwen.
