My Dads
Paul Meisel
The little girl in this story has two different families and, hence, two different dads. And these dads really are different. Known as ‘Dad’ and ‘Pa’, they are almost polar opposites, but this doesn’t matter because she enjoys them both and their disparate talents. Dad is tall; Pa is short. Dad wears suits; Pa, a rather more laid-back figure, doesn’t. They are both into music, but of diverse sorts. Dad teaches the little girl to cook in the kitchen while Pa prefers a barbecue. Pa paints walls, but Dad paints pictures. They are both into bikes, but of very different sorts. The little girl enjoys it all and knows that they are together in the most important thing of all: loving her. The warm and sensitive pictures show us details of her times with her two fathers and of parents who have given this particular child the gift of security and love.
