Mrs Muffly is buying vast quantities of food and this can only mean one thing. She is clearly hiding a monster. We follow her daily trips to the shops, count the eggs, weigh the flour and share in speculation as to what the monster is doing with all this stuff. Dyer’s collage and pencil illustrations are executed with great flair and warmth. Her characters in particular are always drawn with great empathy. She exploits the double page format well as the tension builds page by page and the mystery unravels. The book concludes with a bonus information page, the content of which would give away the ending if revealed!
