An inventive and amusing book from one of the UK’s most popular young author-artists. ‘All the birds had laid an egg. All except for Duck. Then Duck found an egg!’ Duck’s devotion to the outsized, unusual-looking adopted egg is ridiculed by the other birds. One by one the various eggs hatch and the suspense builds. Gravett cleverly exploits the format of the book, using cutaway pages to conceal and reveal as we move toward the big climax. Children and parents will love to play with the pages, creating multiple visual options as offspring emerge. Lots of amusing little visual puns embroider the pages as the suspense becomes unbearable. The end is worth waiting for!
