Booktrust, an independent charity, promotes books and reading to people of all ages, and runs a number of successful reading projects, including Bookstart, the national scheme enabling over 650,000 babies across the UK to receive a free Bookstart pack including a free book and information for parents and carers about sharing books with babies. The organisation also manages numerous literary prizes, including the Booker Prize, Orange Prize, Nestlé Smarties Book Prize and the Kurt Maschler Award, and offers a telephone book information service. A wide range of resources and publications on all aspects of children’s literature is available, including a termly magazine, Children’s Book News, and Booktrust’s guide to the best paperback books of the year, 100 Best Books.
